Hello flower series is inspired by my sweet English friend, Stacey-as, “Hello Flower” is how she greets me every single time she sees me-it always warms the cockles of my heart! I LOVE flowers! I wear them in my hair, have a bouquet on my kitchen table every week from my amazing husband and draw them every chance I get!

When I dreamed up this printable concept, I envisioned my artwork traveling all over the world.

SO…

Meet Alejandra!

Ale is my friend and my curly hair guru! She is as delightful as can be! We always have the most fascinating conversations, about books, music, travel, the world, family, you name it, all while she is working her curly hair magic on my crown and glory! We share a love of Mexico and it’s beauty. We always part with new bits of knowledge about a particular book, musical group or social cause that we both want to learn more about. I fell in love with Mexico during a trip Geoff and I made, just before the pandemic, the country, the people, and of course, all of the colors! Ale travels there often to see family, to celebrate her heritage and to simply soak in it’s extraordinary wonder! She is making a trip later this month to celebrate Die de los Muertos, a holiday I am fascinated by.

She has shown me photos of the alters (ofrendas) decorated with the fragrant and pretty Mexican marigolds (cempasuchil)-you know how much I love flowers- I knew I had to draw them!

During my visit I fell in love with ‘paper picado’ I saw them everywhere- I even brought one home as a remembrance of my trip, and I drew them too! So, in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, I knew I wanted to pay tribute to this lovely country and my equally lovely friend, Ale!

Viva Mexico, Ale!

Enjoy!
